The refuge Questa is located on the shores of Lake Portette at 2388 meters, in the Valasco Valley, in the middle of the Maritime Alps Natural Park. The path leading to the refuge begins at Terme di Valdieri, a hamlet of the municipality of Valdieri, in the Province of Cuneo (Italy).
From the car-park at Terme di Valdieri an hour's walk on an unsurfaced road (closed to traffic) leads you to
Valasco, a plain where the Savoy family's former royal hunting lodge is situated.
From here the route continues as a mule track up to an altitude of 2000m. where a path leading to the refuge branches off by a broken larch (3 hrs walk from the car-park, white and red paint-marks).
From the larch tree you can stay on the mule track which is less steep and passes by the lago di Valscura (4 hrs from the car-park in this case).
